Valeda is the first and only FDA-authorized treatment for dry AMD to improve and maintain vision for up to 2 years. Valeda uses the power of light to restore cellular energy production and improve retinal cellular health.

84% of Valeda PBM–treated patients maintained or improved vision at about 2 years compared to baseline. More than 60% of Valeda PBM–treated patients experienced ≥1-line vision improvement at about 2 years compared to baseline.

Valeda is noninvasive, dilation-free, and anesthesia-free. There are no drops, no speculums, and no injections. It’s a smooth experience.

One treatment course consists of three applications per week over three consecutive weeks, three times a year. The treatment regimen consists of 54 applications administered in six courses over 2 years.

Valeda

Valeda® is a non-invasive light therapy for certain patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It uses photobiomodulation (PBM), delivering specific wavelengths of yellow, red and near-infrared light to the eye to stimulate cellular activity in the retina. The Valeda Light Delivery System received FDA De Novo authorization in November 2024.

Valeda delivers low-intensity light at specific wavelengths to retinal tissue. Photobiomodulation is intended to support mitochondrial function—the process cells use to produce energy—and address oxidative stress and inflammation associated with dry AMD.

Treatment is non-invasive and does not involve injections or surgery. The patient sits in front of the Valeda device while controlled wavelengths of light are delivered to the eyes

Valeda is intended for specific patients with dry AMD and best-corrected vision between 20/32 and 20/70 who meet additional retinal criteria. It is not intended to treat wet AMD or patients with center-involving geographic atrophy. An eye doctor will perform an examination and determine whether a patient’s type and stage of AMD meet the treatment criteria.

Valeda is intended to improve visual acuity in qualifying patients with dry AMD, but individual results can vary. FDA-reviewed data supporting the authorization found improvement in visual acuity; manufacturer information reports that at approximately two years, treated patients averaged about one additional line of visual acuity compared with patients who did not receive treatment.
